چکیده

The isolation of Clostridium botulinurn type A toxin in crystalline form (1, 2) has led to an interest in its chemical composition. An apparently complete analysis of the pure crystalline toxin is presented in this paper. Preliminary studies have indicated that the toxin is a protein with an isoelectric point of pH 5.6, possessing the properties of a globulin (l-3). It is free from carbohydrate, halogens, iron, manganese, and magnesium. In addition to carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur it contains a small amount of phosphorus and a negligible amount of ash. Nineteen amino acids have been found. The criteria of purity for the crystalline toxin used in this work are as follows: (1) Ultracentrifugation (4) and electrophoretic studies (1, 2) showed the toxin to be a homogeneous substance. (2) Separately prepared batches of toxin produced under similar cultural conditions showed constant values for the fourteen amino acids determined as an aid in studies of the constancy of composition. (3) Serologically, the toxin acts as a single substance in the toxin-antitoxin reaction. The material used for these studies was prepared by the method of Lamanna and coworkers (1).

Double Sandwich ELISA Modified Method for the Detection of Clostridium Botulinum Type E

Background & Objective: A very small amount of botulinum toxin can cause death and on the other hand, there is no cure for its poison other than antitoxin. Therefore, a diagnostic method that can detect very small amounts of botulinum toxin in a short time is very important. In this study, rapid and accurate detection of botulinum toxin type E has been performed with the double sandwich ELISA m...

Characterization of Clostridium botulinum spores and its toxin in honey

Botulism is a serious paralytic disease caused by Clostridium botulinum toxin in foods. There are seven recognized serotypes of botulinum neurotoxins among which the principal prevalent types in humans include A, B and E. Infant botulism results from intestinal colonization and toxin production by C. botulinum spores in babies less than 1 year old. Honey is the most important food discriminated...

They were different from each other in antigenecity, amino acid composition and electric charge. Reassociation of these two components gave a molecule with iower texic act{vity (O.1-3% of the native toxin) in the delay of S-S linkage formation, whe...

Establishment of a monoclonal antibody recognizing an antigenic site common to Clostridium botulinum type B, C1, D, and E toxins and tetanus toxin.

The partial amino acid sequence of the light-chain (Lc) component of Clostridium botulinum type C1 toxin was determined. The sequence was quite similar to those of the other types of botulinum and tetanus toxins. Nine monoclonal antibodies against botulinum type E toxin were established by immunizing BALB/c mice with type E toxoid or its Lc component. Six antibodies reacted with the heavy-chain...
